Lyophilised peptides are comparatively stable; reconstituted ones are not. Once in solution, degradation pathways that were dormant in the dry state — hydrolysis, oxidation, deamidation, aggregation — resume at a rate governed largely by temperature.
Amber glass addresses photodegradation. Cold storage addresses kinetics. Aliquoting addresses the freeze-thaw cycling that mechanically stresses a protein far more than continuous storage does.
Stability is a measurable property, not an assumption. Formal stability testing conditions are described in the ICH Q1A guideline, and the same logic applies at bench scale: define the condition, then observe the material under it.
Research Status
Governed by established stability-testing standards; specific degradation rates vary by sequence and are determined empirically, not assumed.
